Famous Palestinian filmmaker buried in Ramallah Friday

31/07/2009 Bethlehem – Ma’an – Palestinian film director Mustapha Abu Ali was buried Friday following prayer at the Jamal Abdel Nasser Mosque in Al-Bireh. The 69-year-old cinema legend died Thursday.

Abu Ali is considered one of the founders of Palestinian cinema and was the head of the Palestinian cinema group in Ramallah.

Abu Ali studied cinema in Britain and the United States, after which he founded the “Fatah Cinema Unit” in 1968 in Jordan shortly before he released his first feature film titled No for the Political Solution in Jordan. He then went on to With Soul and Blood, and Tel Az-Za’tar in Jordan.

The by then famous director moved to Lebanon along with half a dozen Palestinian and Arab directors to found the Palestinian Cinema Group. The first project of the group was a film about the Israeli invasion of Gaza.
